Artist Statement

 Influenced by a waste-not-want-not upbringing, I urge you to ‘make do’ with the papers I use to create fine art collages with a chigiri-e  technique and wabi-sabi aesthetic. Maritime life is notoriously frugal in smaller out ports and my work aims to celebrate that and the lifestyle that supports it. A greater theme I try to tackle through my collage work is consumerism and the need for humans to get by with less. My choice of using found papers and elevating their worth through collage and up-cycling of materials encourages the viewer to consider the participation of the art community in producing waste and pollution by the creation of art itself.
